Kumaon Darunaj is a rather stout erect perennial,
flower-heads several, smaller 1.5-4 cm across, with very numerous long
ray-florets, in a lax cluster borne on prominently glandular-hairy
stalks, which are swollen at the tip. Ray-florets are yellow, 5-12 mm;
involucral bracts lanceshaped, glandular-hairy. Leaves are broadly
ovate pointed 8-12 cm, shallowly toothed, upper leaves stem-clasping,
with enlarged basal lobes, the lower leaves long-stalked; stem 2-4 ft.
Kumaon Darunaj is found in the Himalayas, from Pakistan to Bhutan, at
altitudes of 3000-3600 m, quite common in West Himalaya. Flowering:
June-August.
Medicinal uses: Kumaon Darunaj is used
medicinally. It is said to prevent altitude sickness, giddiness.
